Alcohol Consumption Linked to Cancer Incidence, Deaths Across the Country

A new study found that alcohol consumption accounts for a considerable portion of cancer incidence and mortality in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Farhad Islami, MD, PhD, and his colleagues at the American Cancer Society (ACS) estimated contemporary proportions and counts of alcohol-attributable cancer cases and deaths for all states. Data show the proportions were generally higher in New England and the Western states and lower in the Midwestern and Southern states.
